Properly rebuilt Mason & Hamlin AA Grands are some of the finest instruments ever crafted. The Model AA is a distinctive and elegant piano that features a dynamic range and quality of tone that is incredibly wide and lush. Mason & Hamlin AA #34630 is a prime example of the high caliber of work that was once standard throughout the piano industry. Fully restored to a like new, concert level status this piano is ready to play and purchase at our facility today. One of the first questions many piano rebuilders and experts ask about a Mason & Hamlin piano is ‘was this made in Boston?’ The caliber of parts and workmanship is considered to be at its peak during this time. This pre-1933 period is considered to be the golden age of Mason & Hamlin factory quality. This particular Model AA was built at the company’s original factory in Boston. Vintage Mason & Hamlin instruments are famous for their tonal quality and durability. The result of this work is a stable, concert level instrument that is ready to serve for countless decades to come. A new premium solid spruce soundboard and bridge caps have been installed along with a new custom fitted pinblock. The keyboard features new German Kluge keytops and restored original ebony sharps on the original key sticks. We spend hours beyond the industry norm, ensuring that the touch and tone of the piano meet the high standards expected of vintage Mason & Hamlin instruments. The keyboard has been weighed off to proper specifications to create the perfect down and up weight. Expert tone regulation/voicing has been performed to ensure a full, pleasing quality of tone. Our piano technicians have spent many hours regulating and adjusting the action to ensure a responsive touch. The action has been fully rebuilt utilizing new German Renner wippens, and the finest quality new hammers, shanks, and flanges. The cast iron plate has been re-bronzed and hand-lettered and the natural damper blocks have been refinished. The satin ebony cabinet has been expertly refinished in a closed pore, hand rubbed lacquer. This ‘golden age’ instrument features a round arm case with octagonal legs resting in brass ferrules. Fully Restored to Concert Level Standards All combined, this Crown Retention System helps to lend stability and longevity to the piano’s structure and supports the production of a strong, pure tone. The uncommonly thick hard rock maple rim design is combined with the unique Mason & Hamlin Tension Resonator which ensures permanence – proven to stand the tests of time and use. (Comparable in length to the Steinway & Sons Model A Grand Pianos.) Mason & Hamlin instruments are legendary for their incredibly solid build and powerful tone.
